It is time to activate MDJS

SSC 13 is done. I wanted to add more, but enough is enough. It will go out in the next day or so. I'm also putting some polish on ORFA, in a vertical, letter-sized edition, for Skyrealms of Jorune. I have some work yet to do for that world, but this marks the end of the Segment: Sho-Caudal project. Thirteen issues, about 300 pages. I had about twenty people around the world supporting me on this and I hope they feel I did right by them.

I had hoped the book(s) would provide a stream of income through Amzon.com, but that is not happening. It may build for something good later, but for the moment I need to shift lanes.

MDJS stands for More Damn Joe Stuff, was intended as a project to garner support from Patreon to accomplish specific projects. There are several tracks - 12-Step Recovery, Role Playing Games, Self Education, and some personal projects.

The Patreon channel will show as MDJS, with tracks for:

  • Role-Playing Games - Old-style tabletop, pencil-paper-&-dice with friends in the same room style gaming. This channel would include Skyrealms of Jorune, ORFA, Heroes for Hard Times (pulp era gaming), and possibly a near-future science fiction setting. It will stand on other RPG projects I have done over the past 25 years.
  • 12-Step Recovery - This will include the third edition of Recovery Reader, indexed and expanded. That should be the last in this line–it will stand on its own; Simple Directions (Inventory guide), and a YouTube channel (through MDJS) for videos that will deal with issues that come up when someone puts down the substance or behavior to qualify for a new life in one of the dozens of 12-Step Programs available to address those problems. What these will share is the history of those programs and the kind of issues that come up when the distracting or sedating methods and try change in order to live a new life, which is the goal of those 12-Step programs.
  • Educational Projects - Part of this track includes the projects mentioned above, but will also include fleshing out of a project called Do-It-Yourself Radio Drama; a track for self-eduction on the Classical Trivium educational system; instructions for recognizing and dealing with the Propaganda that saturates our politics and advertising; basic living skills, such as the I Don't Wanna Cook (But I Wanna Eat) Book.
There are some others but I have enough to keep me busy for a while.
And it isn't pie-in-the-sky dream fodder.

For Jorune, I've already supplied about 300 pages of material through Sholari Magazine, Annals of the Tan Soor Historical Society, and another 300 pages the now-completed Segment: Sho-Caudal, with it companion ORFA: Jorune gaming system release, available at different locations on the web. I have already started a full video introduction to the world, the game, the races, and the history of Jorune, otherwise known as Sho-Caudal.

A fourth edition may never happen, but people could still enter and enjoy the game.

For 12-Step Recovery, I've already done publications (like Sponsor Magazine, Good Orderly Direction, the earlier editions of Recovery Reader, and The Work, an intensive 30-day step class syllabus with daily homework) and those may be gussied up for re-release through various channels.

I have podcasts, starting with a 24-episodes of the Anonymous Review Podcast (the history of AA using recordings of the founders and people associated with the development of the fellowship). There is an equal number of episodes for the Sponsorship Podcast. These two provide 24 episodes each to provide a soundtrack for new videos for up to YouTube productions.

In addition to that, I have taught my 3-class Haunted Recovery course in thirty sessions over the past ten years at a local recovery center. The goal of the class is to use these materials to create new videos to support the topics, including:
  • PTSD
  • Adverse Childhood Events
  • Adult Children of Alcoholics
  • Learned Helplessness
  • Erikson Personality Development
  • Transactional Analysis
  • Emotional Sobriety
  • Adult Communication Skills
These are the problems that arise in what is loosely called "Recovery" and the tools used in the process of dealing with the past while building a future. It is an educational track that includes different ways to understand, and repair, those issues, broken into easily digested clips that only run as long as the topic requires.

I have recorded the three-sessions a few times and may pull from live classes to create soundtracks, but will probably have to re-record the narration. This video series may take up to ten episodes and could be a sequential self-education course in those issues, but also would serve someone looking for a specific topic.

This curriculum has been very close to my heart and watching men who have attended the class face their demons and flourish goes beyond anything I can describe. But you know I'm going to try.

For personal projects, I would like to do some podcasts/videos to honor my late comedy partner Gregg A. Roebuck with a reflective and forward-looking comedy series called Adams & Roebuck Minus One. This would mix old material from our Pacifica and syndicated shows, with clips of comedy from those old radio programs with some new material that reflects the modern comedy talents in the same way we shared obscure humorists in the 1970s. It would be a labor of love but might be enjoyable for new listeners.

And there is Do-It-Yourself Radio Drama, a course in how a small group of passionate amateurs can build an effective production unit to develop, write, cast, perform, and produce audio drama for the Twenty-First Century. There is no big advertising money to back such projects, but when people care about the art and the performance of such a project, they can do it for very little money and a lot of satisfaction.

But that is not my highest priority - for now.

The Patreon page will allow people to support these productions for distribution through public-access channels, like Archive.org, YouTube, and the Creative Commons (CC) licenses.

I don't think it would set the world on fire. The projects would mean re-production and re-distribution of existing material, access through CC channels (archive.org, youtube.com, etc.), and some sales possible through print-on-demand systems.

Options for supporters would include a variety of monthly-subscription plans, or possibly one-time donations to support the project. Subscribers and donors will get advance access to the material and electronic copies emailed to you, and a discount on the hardcopies if any are developed.

Patrons will have the option of choosing what kind of materials they receive.

So, it is time to make it all real. I'll get the website, the Patreon account, and the rest ready to go.  And the name - isn't it what most people say when they hear I'm doing something new?

More Damn Joe Stuff.
